METCALFE BACK WHERE HE BELONGS AT SNETTERTON TEST
Jeremy Metcalfe made a welcome return to the top three during official Formula Renault UK testing at Snetterton today, the 19-year-old setting himself up nicely ahead of the 13th and 14th rounds of the season which take place at the Norfolk venue next weekend, 28th/29th July.
The 19-year-old AKA Cobra driver, a double race winner so far this season, saw last weekend's outing at his adopted 'home' circuit, Donington Park, end in disappointment but he bounced back strongly today to end the test third fastest overall with a best lap of 1m 05.538 seconds (107.22mph), just over a 10th of a second shy of the top spot.
Having concluded the first session, the longest of the three at one hour and 50 minutes, seventh quickest with a time of 1m 06.124 seconds (106.27mph), Jeremy went on to set his best time of the day during session two. The final hour of track action took place in drying conditions with Jeremy again the fastest of the AKA drivers.
"It's been a good day and we completed plenty of work ahead of next weekend's races which will hopefully stand us in good stead," said the Fleet teenager, "It was important to come here and test strongly so I'm pleased with how things have gone.
"The car worked well in the dry and the wet and although we didn't go a for a time at the end of the last session as the track dried more and more, we know we've got a good package. I'm confident we should be pretty strong next weekend in any conditions and I want to be back on the podium, that's the aim."
The Loughborough University Banking and Finance student returns to Snetterton a week tomorrow, Friday, 27th July, for pre-event testing ahead of the 13th and 14th rounds of the Formula Renault UK season. Qualifying for round 13 is scheduled to begin at 10.35 on Saturday, 28th July, with the round 14 session following at 14.40.
Both races will take place on Sunday, 29th July, with the first 18-lap encounter expected to start at 11.10 and the second race timetabled to get underway at 15.30. Cable and digital satellite subscription channel Setanta Sports 1 will screen both races live.
