UNEXPLAINED LACK OF PACE THREATENS METCALFE'S HOPES
Hampshire's Jeremy Metcalfe faces one of the toughest challenges of his Formula Renault UK season at Snetterton Circuit tomorrow having endured a frustratingly difficult pair of qualifying sessions at the 1.95-mile Norfolk venue today.
The 19-year-old AKA Cobra racer, who has two race wins to his credit this season, struggled with a lack of pace throughout today's pair of sessions although there were some improvements between the morning and afternoon outings.
Recording an uncharacteristic 15th fastest time of 1m 05.480 seconds (107.31mph) during round 13 qualifying, Jeremy did manage to move inside the top 10 in the round 14 session courtesy of a lap of 1m 05.484 seconds (107.31mph), placing him ninth fastest.
Although bitterly disappointed with the outcome of the day, the BRDC Rising Star is hoping the team will be able to unlock more performance from the car with some changes ahead of Sunday's action to at least give him a fighting chance of a couple of decent results.
"It really is a case of waiting to see what tomorrow brings", stated the Loughborough University student at the end of the second qualifying session, "We've really struggled for pace today and it really is baffling at the moment as we felt positive after the test.
"It's disappointing to be so far down the grid when we should be fighting for the podium but we just need to go through the data, look at where we can make up some time and hopefully be much stronger in race trim tomorrow."
Round 13 of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship is expected to get underway at 11.05 tomorrow, Sunday, 29th July, with round 14 scheduled to follow at 16.10. Both races will be screened live on digital satellite and cable subscription channel Setanta Sports 1.
