MORE WINS THE AIM FOR METCALFE AT DONINGTON NATIONAL
Jeremy Metcalfe is confident next weekend's 11th and 12th rounds of the 2007 Formula Renault UK season at Donington Park will see him continue his recent run of terrific form by challenging for more race wins on the 1.95-mile National Circuit.
It's been an excellent couple of weeks for the 19-year-old AKA Cobra star, first there was his richly deserved round 10 race win at Oulton Park Island Circuit almost a fortnight ago and this past Tuesday he produced a superb performance in official testing at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit to top the times during the afternoon session.
Added to that, Donington Park holds very happy memories for Jeremy having been the venue for a podium finish last season, albeit on the longer 2.5-mile Grand Prix layout, a result which played a big part in him winning the prestigious Donington Park Racing Association Club (DPRAC) Cup.
The Hampshire racer claimed the coveted prize, which has been won in the past by AKA Cobra driver-coach Kelvin Burt in 1992 and Indy 500 race-winner Dario Franchitti in 1994, after becoming the highest scoring British driver from the four Formula Renault UK races to be contested at Donington last season.
Hopes are very high in the AKA camp Jeremy will be able to lead from the front next weekend as the second half of the campaign gets underway and the Loughborough University Banking and Finance student is rightly confident of more race victories.
"When we tested at Donington during the winter I was really fast so we're pretty confident we'll do well next weekend", said the BillChaser-backed star, "Donington is the sort of track that is more down to driver ability than car set-up in my opinion so I'm sure we'll be right there at the front.
"Obviously you need a good car but I believe it's a circuit where there is more emphasis on the driver as it's a place where it's relatively easy to find a decent set-up. Hopefully my experience will count and we can get some more wins, that's the aim."
Along with his local links to Donington by way of his degree course at Loughborough, the famous circuit is also the home track for Jeremy's AKA Cobra team which is based at Bardon in nearby Coalville.
Pre-event testing will take place next Thursday, 12th July, with qualifying for round 11 scheduled to start at 10.35 on Saturday, 14th July and the round 12 session expected to follow at 15.15. Both races, which will be screened live on digital satellite and cable channel Setanta Sports 1, are timetabled for Sunday, 15th July, at 10.40 and 16.10.
