SILVERSTONE STRUGGLE FOR CRS
After a victorious weekend at Knockhill recently, the CRS Formula Renault team has just endured a tough event at Silverstone's GP Circuit. Two CRS drivers, Knockhill-winner Robert Foster-Jones and Harry Tincknell took top ten finishes but there were no podiums to be had this weekend.
With just a single qualifying session where each driver's top two lap times set the grid, it was vital to make the most of the 25-minutes on track. Unfortunately all four CRS drivers struggled in qualifying, which left them on the back foot for the weekend.
Harry, Robert and Mick Lyons were joined by Brazilian driver, Yann Cunha, at Silverstone, who used the race as a one-off opportunity to learn the Silverstone track prior to joining the F3 grid in 2011.
Harry started both races from tenth place on the grid. In race one he retired with rear suspension problems but in race two he got stuck in and hauled himself up to eighth place.
Rob moved up from ninth to eighth in race one and was showing great pace in race two before a small off at Becketts put him down the field. He recovered and moved back up the order, settling for 12th place at the chequered flag.
Mick could only manage 18th place on the grid for both races but pulled himself up to 14th and 16th by the end of the two races.
Yann, in his first run at Silverstone, qualified back in 22nd place but ran well to take 15th and 17th place in the races.
"We were off the pace in qualifying and that left us with a mountain to climb for the rest of the weekend," said CRS Team Principal, Andrew Kirkaldy. "It's surprising to me as we won at this event last year. We had good speed in the races but just seemed to lack something in qualifying."
There is just one event left in the 2010 Formula Renault UK Championship and it takes place at Brands Hatch in three weeks' time.
