HARRY HOLDS ON FOR A PODIUM FINISH
CRS Racing's Harry Tincknell recovered from a challenging Saturday at Oulton Park to take a podium place in round eight of the Formula Renault UK Championship yesterday afternoon.
Harry had some rear suspension problems in practice and qualifying but still managed to bag fourth place on the grid for both of the weekend's races. In Saturday's race he tangled with another car going into the hairpin whilst fourth, which dropped him right down the field, eventually finishing in ninth place. It was a difficult race for the team to watch as all three of Harry's team-mates went out on lap one. They are all very evenly matched which meant they qualified next to one another. Unfortunately it was a bit too close for comfort and in the squeezing that always goes on at the start all three cars tangled and retired from the race.
The team arrived at Oulton Park on Sunday morning ready for a fresh start and hoping to get all four CRS Formula Renaults to the chequered flag.
Harry got away well at the start, improving to third place at turn one. Mick, Victor and Rob were again running together in 12th, 13th and 14th positions respectively. They were all going great guns until lap six when Victor made a move on Mick. Unfortunately it didn't stick and the two cars collided. Mick continued on but the collision gave Robert the opportunity to pass Victor. Their final finishing positions were 12th for Mick, 13th for Robert and 16th for Victor.
At the head of the field Harry was having a great race. After dropping back slightly during the middle part he was fully lit in the closing laps and came through to secure third place and his fifth podium finish of the season so far.
"We pulled it together quite nicely today," said Harry. "Third place is a good result from fourth on the grid as it's very hard to overtake around here. At the start I was pushing hard and catching Tom (Blomqvist) but then the car started to fall away from me. Then in the last few laps I started to get the grip back so I could push really hard."
