Croft, Yorkshire, UK -- 3 June 2007: The AKA Cobra team were in Yorkshire this weekend for rounds seven and eight of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship at Croft. The promise they showed during a recent test at Croft didn't follow through to the race weekend so the team were disappointed with the overall result, vowing to get back on target at Oulton Park in a few weeks' time.
As there was only one qualifying session at Croft, the grid for race two was decided on each driver's second fastest time from qualifying.
Race 1: Qualified 6th, Finished 5th
Race 2: Qualified 6th, Finished 6th
"I a bit disappointed with the overall results from Croft as we had such a good test here. The qualifying session was going really well for me; I was in third and I thought I had done enough but when I came in I was down to sixth so there was clearly still more time to be had. I got an awesome start in Saturday's race, getting (Alex) Sims off the line and getting up alongside Riki (Christodoulou). I had to yield going into the first corner or it would have got messy so I ran in fifth, on the tail of the leading pack for the first five laps. The leaders then began to inch away so I took fifth place at the finish then spent a long evening looking at data and considering what we could do to pick up the pace. I got away in sixth place in today's race and our homework paid off as I was able to run with the leaders for a lot longer. With four laps to go I got past Sims when he made a mistake but on the next lap I made a mistake too, going through the gravel at turn one. I rejoined behind Sims in sixth place and then had to fend off a challenge from Jeremy (Metcalfe), whilst nursing a damaged wishbone, so it was a busy finish for me. I'm pretty happy with the weekend's results. I'm still third in the Championship and as I'm leading the Graduate Cup standings I have won the opportunity to visit the Renault F1 team at their Silverstone test in a few weeks' time!"
Race 1: Qualified 8th, DNF
Race 2: Qualified 7th, Finished 7th
"Croft did promise a lot but, unfortunately, we weren't able to deliver the goods as we expected to so we need to put the weekend behind us and come back strong in three weeks at Oulton Park where we obviously went well last year", said Jeremy.
"I'd like to think we can be back on the podium at Oulton as we do need to start stringing together some consistent results for the championship. I'm disappointed with the way things have gone for us this weekend but we'll be working harder than ever to turn things around during the next two races."
Race 1: Qualified 10th, Finished 7th
Race 2: Qualified 10th, Finished 13th
"I was expecting a slightly better result from qualifying as I was running in P7 during the test on Friday but tenth for each race wasn't too bad. I held onto tenth at the start of race one and had a fairly quiet race, gaining positions when others went off. I spent the race watching people go off in front of me, making sure I didn't do the same and took seventh place at the flag. I got a good start in race two and got up to eighth before (Adriano) Buzaid got back past me on the straight. I was running ninth for about half of the race before a momentary lapse of concentration had me off at turn one. I rejoined in 14th but could only gain one place to take 13th at the end. I was disappointed with my result in race two, especially as my race one result was the best of the season so far. It was my mistake in race two though so I'll learn from it and make sure it doesn't happen again."
Race 1: Qualified 11th, Finished 8th
Race 2: Qualified 13th, Finished 10th
"I think that after the crash I had in the test here I was on the back foot from the start of the weekend. Then, during practice on Friday I only completed four laps before my engine went. The team did a great job to change it as quickly as possible but it limited my running and I had to go into qualifying with a set-up that wasn't quite right. During qualifying I completed my first flying lap but then I lost sixth gear so that was really the end of my session, just as the tyres came in and I got into my rhythm! I got a good start in race one. It was a pretty disjointed race for me but it did me a lot of good as the car felt good and it really built up my confidence again. Race two also started well and I was able to mix it in the midfield. A couple of people went off and then I passed (David) Epton into Tower. I think I definitely lost a bit of confidence due to my crash in testing but I'm feeling confident now and there is still a long way to go."
