Bardon, Leicestershire, UK -- 28 May 2007: The Formula Renault UK Championship continues this weekend at Croft and the AKA Cobra team are looking for top results after completing a productive test at the Yorkshire circuit.
These are busy times for the AKA Cobra team. The team is in Holland today as Adam Christodoulou and Nathan Caratti are taking part in a round of the Northern European Formula Renault Championship at Zandvoort. It will be a quick turnaround for the team when they get back to the UK and head straight off to Croft.
"The team has worked very hard since Thruxton so it was good to have a positive test at Croft.Jeremy was exceptionally fast at the test and Adam also showed impressive pace, good enough for P2 if he hadn't had traffic. This is also good news for Chris and Nathan as they know we have a good car at Croft."
"The guys tested extremely well at Croft so I'm excited about the results we could achieve this weekend.Jeremy and Adam showed their true pace so now it is time to start notching up some podiums and ultimately race victories."
Adam Christodoulou (currently 3rd in Championship standings):
"The Croft test was the best one of the year so far. I was in the top five for most of it and strong in the wet too.I was a little disappointed with my final time; I got held up on my quick lap and also made a small mistake, so there is definitely another three-tenths in it which would have put me second overall. All in all I'm happy to be on the pace and have a good chance of podium finishes this weekend."
Jeremy Metcalfe (currently 4th in Championship standings):
"Last week's test is the best we've gone all year and so we're feeling confident for the races but we'll just have to wait and see if we can be as competitive. I really like Croft, it's a circuit where there are some good overtaking opportunities and our car goes well there. Hopefully everything will go to plan; I'm feeling confident and now is the time for us to start making inroads into the championship battle. We did a lot of good set-up work at the test and we were very fast on old tyres and quick on new rubber too so we should be strong. Qualifying will be very important though as we'll only have one session at Croft."
Chris Holmes (currently 9th in Championship standings):
"My pace at the recent Croft test was good in the dry and I was running in P4 before I had a big 'off' at the first corner, sadly leaving the team with a lot of work to get the car ready for the race weekend.I did learn a lot though prior to the accident so I will head into the event with high expectations; I want to win! After a big accident it's vital to make sure the car and I get back up to speed and thankfully we have a test so we can check everything. I don't think it's unrealistic to be in the top six. I need the points and some luck! With this being my home race I have a lot of friends and sponsors coming so it's my aim to give them something to cheer about!"
Nathan Caratti (currently =14th in Championship standings):
"I am looking forward to Croft even though I struggled a bit at the test there. It was the first time I had been there and I had quite a big accident on the first day which put me on the back foot straight away because I missed half a day of testing.Hopefully the race weekend will be a different story! We have a good car there as Jeremy showed when he went fastest at the test so I will have some good data and hopefully there will be no excuses."
