COMPETITIVE MORNING KEEPS BRATT SMILING AT ICY SILVERSTONE
Teenage Formula Renault UK star Will Bratt enjoyed one of the most promising testing outings of his young career at Silverstone National circuit this morning, the Scorpio Motorsport driver actually heading the timesheets on several occasions.
Following on from a strong showing at the Northamptonshire venue yesterday afternoon, Will set the 11th fastest time during the first session of the day before slicing three 10ths of a second off his previous best to post a lap of 55.400 seconds (106.50mph) during session two.
On paper, Will's quickest time placed him 14th overall at the conclusion of the second session but this was only after the majority of front-runners had managed to move ahead of the Adderbury ace by using fresh tyres.
For most of the session Will had traded times at the top of the timesheets and on a number of occasions he was the fastest driver on the track, much to the delight of the whole Scorpio team.
"I didn't feel as though I was going blindingly fast and yet we were at the top of the times at several points during the second session so the car was obviously working well", said Will at the end of the morning.
"The car was certainly much better today and if we had taken new tyres when the other front-runners did I've no doubt we would have been right with them. It's been quite a good couple of days and now I can't wait to go to Snetterton next week to build on the progress we've made here at Silverstone."
Meanwhile, the day's combined times were certainly not indicative of Will'0x2859s genuine pace as 23 of the 28 drivers taking part in the test set their fastest laps during the third and final session. Will was only able to take part in the morning sessions due to school commitments in the afternoon and so missed out on the best conditions of the day.
The Formula Renault UK field now heads to Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk for two days of exclusive testing on Wednesday, 8th March, and Thursday, 9th March.
