BRATT HAPPY WITH OULTON PREPARATIONS
Teenage Formula Renault UK star Will Bratt ended today's pre-event test session at Oulton Park Island Circuit fully satisfied with his progress ahead of the weekend's third and fourth rounds of the season.
The 18-year-old Scorpio Motorsport driver, who goes into the second race meeting of the year an excellent seventh overall in the championship standings, is looking forward to continuing his superb start to the season and although rain played a major factor in the eventual outcome of the test, Will has declared himself happy with the 10th best time.
"We were running on old tyres this morning and had planned to fit new rubber during the second session but the rain intervened so we weren't able to show our true pace", said the Adderbury ace.
"The weather was the major factor in the afternoon session and it means the times are fairly irrelevant to be honest, it was all about being out on track at the right time. We're happy with our pace from the morning session though as we know we would have enjoyed much quicker lap times with newer tyres."
During the opening 45 minutes of testing this morning, Will ended the session with a fastest lap of 1m 20.339 seconds (99.74mph) -- just three 10ths of a second shy of a top five placing. Due to the rainfall during session two, however, this would prove to be his best lap of the day.
Will added: "I'm very happy with the car and although the rain prevented us from achieving some of what we wanted to, generally speaking we managed to undertake most of our planned work ahead of the weekend so things are looking good."
Meanwhile, rounds three and four of the Formula Renault UK Championship will see Scorpio field two cars for the first time this season, 25-year-old David Epton returning to the Loughborough-based team having enjoyed a successful campaign in the Formula Palmer Audi Championship last year.
Epton, who finalised a deal with the Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed outfit at the beginning of the week, previously ran with Scorpio in 2002 and 2003 and is now making a welcome return as team-mate to Will.
Qualifying and round three of the season will take place tomorrow, Saturday, 13th May, at Oulton Park with round four scheduled to begin at 15.00 on Sunday, 14th May. The second of the weekend's races will be broadcast live on digital satellite station Motors TV, channel 413 of the Sky Digital platform.
