BRATT AIMING HIGH AT CONCLUSION OF OFFICIAL TESTING
Formula Renault UK Championship ace Will Bratt is setting his sights high ahead of the start of the new season which begins at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in a fortnight's time.
At the conclusion of official pre-season testing today at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire, the Adderbury 17-year-old produced a best lap of 1m 17.406 seconds (98.92mph) to record the 11th fastest time overall, just four 10ths of a second outside the top six.
Although bettering his quickest lap from Wednesday's opening day of the test by a 10th of a second, Will departed the 2.1-mile track this afternoon a little frustrated due to the number of stoppages during the day which compromised his chance to utilise new tyres to good effect.
"I'm fairly happy overall but the red flags were a problem again", explained the Scorpio Motorsport star. "Every time we went out on new tyres, the session would be stopped due to a driver going off the circuit and so we lost the best of our tyres without even having the opportunity to post a really quick time.
"The car has been good and the only problem was it seemed a little bit tail-happy when I tried to put the power down in some of the quicker corners. I know we lost some time, especially in the first sector of the lap, so I'm not too disappointed with our pace as we could and should have been quicker."
Since becoming Vice-Champion of the category's 'Graduate Cup' class last season, Will has gone from strength to strength, securing his best ever Formula Renault UK result of fifth position at Croft during last November's winter series.
Now though the Oxon teenager, who will combine his racing with vital A-level studies ahead of a prospective graduation to the University of Oxford's Lincoln College later in the year, is confident of becoming an established front-runner in Formula Renault UK after a highly productive pre-season.
Will added: "I'm aiming as high aspossible this season. If we're capable of being in the top six then that's where I intend to be and if we have the pace to be in the top three, which I'm hopeful we will, then we'll do everything possible to be there. Ultimately, I hope to be in with a chance of winning a race. I want to be on the top step of the podium and I'll be trying as hard as I can."
With official pre-season testing now completed, Will's focus turns to the opening two rounds of the 2006 Formula Renault UK Championship which will take place at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent on 8th/9th April.
