Russell Racing heads to Silverstone National Circuit next weekend, 14th/15th October, for the final Formula Renault UK race meeting of 2006 in buoyant mood, having seen team driver Matt Russell equal his season's best result last time out at Brands Hatch.
The Harlesden-based racer, who will celebrate his 23rd birthday on the Sunday of the Silverstone event, recorded a deserved 13th position during round 17 of the season just two weeks ago, having previously achieved the same result at Knockhill in Scotland during round seven of the championship in June.
With only two Formula Renault UK races remaining this season, the Russell Racing star is hoping to end the year on a positive note at the famous Northamptonshire venue, his first track action coming during a pair of 45-minute pre-event test sessions on Friday, 13th October.
"I think Silverstone could provide a good opportunity to perhaps achieve our best result of the season", commented Matt, "Brands Hatch was quite good in many ways, our pace wasn't too bad at all and we managed to finish in the top 13 again which was a boost.
"Although the season hasn't quite delivered what I had hoped for, with the Silverstone races falling on my birthday I'd like to be the one giving the team a present by starting next weekend strongly and going on to qualify in or around the top 15. I'm certainly looking forward to being back in the car and we're aiming to end the season on a high."
The Doncaster-based team, which is actively seeking drivers for the upcoming Formula Renault UK Winter Championship in November, took part in an exclusive day of official testing at Silverstone National in August and Matt is hopeful the work completed then will reap rewards during the season finale.
"It's been a tough year but I think, as a new team, we've acquitted ourselves well and made good progress in both Formula Renault UK and Formula Renault BARC", he added, "Hopefully pre-race testing will set us up nicely ahead of qualifying and should we line-up in the top 15 on the grid, who knows what we might be able to achieve?"
Round 19 qualifying will take place at 09.35 on Saturday, 14th October, with the round 20 session to follow at 15.05. The last two races of the 2006 championship will then be held on Sunday, 15th October, with round 19 expected to get underway at 09.00 and the 20th and final round of the season timetabled to begin at 14.05.
Both races will be broadcast live on Motors TV, channel 413 of the Sky Digital platform and via cable provider NTL on channel 545.
