Doncaster-based Russell Racing will travel the short 85-milejourney to its second most local circuit, Croft in North Yorkshire, in a little over a week's time in preparation for the ninth and 10th rounds of the Formula Renault UK Championship season.

Having seen 22-year-old Matt Russell record both his and the team's best ever category result of 13th position at Knockhill in Scotland almost three weeks ago, Russell Racing heads to Croft hoping to continue its recent progression and to end the first half of the team's debut season on a high.

Speaking ahead of the Croft double-header, Matt commented: "It's a good circuit and an enjoyable place to race. Hopefully we can build on our recent improvements and aim for a good top 15 position in qualifying.

"The key is to continue building on the progress we are making and after achieving our best ever result at Knockhill during the last round, we're confident we can keep that progression going and continue to move onward and upward."

Team and driver certainly received a welcome confidence boost last week during official Formula Renault UK Championship testing at Snetterton, the Norfolk venue set to be the venue for the 13th and 14th rounds of the season.

With Russell Racing electing to remain on old tyres for the duration of the test, Matt was pleased to end the day just six 10ths of a second shy of the top 10 knowing full well new rubber would have pushed him firmly inside the top 15.

Attention now though turns to Croft for rounds nine and 10 of the season the weekend after next and if Matt can replicate the kind of performance he produced at Knockhill during round eight, there's a strong likelihood he will be in a position to break into the top 20 of the Formula Renault UK driver standings.

Pre-event testing will take place on Friday, 14th July, ahead of qualifying and the ninth round of the season on Saturday, 15th July. Round 10, meanwhile, is scheduled to start at 16.05 on Sunday, 16th July, and will be broadcast live on Motors TV -- available via Sky Digital on channel 413 and through cable provider NTL on channel 173.
