DOUBLE DONINGTON TOP SIX FOR METCALFE IN QUALIFYING
Jeremy Metcalfe heads into the 11th and 12th rounds of the Formula Renault UK season at Donington Park National Circuit tomorrow, Sunday, 30th July, confident of climbing back up the championship standings having qualified strongly for both races.
The AKA Lemac star, who has three podiums finishes and a brace of top four results to his credit so far this year, begins the first of tomorrow's 16-lap encounters a highly creditable fifth on the grid after posting a best time of 1m 06.813 seconds (105.46mph) during round 11 qualifying this morning.
Under cloudier skies than the earlier 20-minute period, round 12 qualifying saw the BillChaser-backed 18-year-old clock a best lap of 1m 07.176 seconds (104.89mph) which means the Fleet sensation will begin race two sixth on the grid.
Approximately just half a second shy of pole position in both qualifying sessions, Jeremy is confident his race pace will be strong tomorrow and as a driver renowned for his overtaking ability, he is looking forward to challenging for podium results to further enhance his position in the title race.
"Both of the sessions turned out fairly well for us in the end considering we struggled with understeer in qualifying", commented Jeremy, "To start fifth and sixth tomorrow isn't too bad but there's nothing we can do about it now, we just have to make sure the car is working well for tomorrow and look ahead to the races.
"We didn't have this problem in Friday's test so it is quite puzzling and frustrating but I'm sure the team will give me a good car for both races and we'll be able to challenge. The times are quite close so if we're there or thereabouts tomorrow I think we can take a couple of good results away from the weekend."
Both races will take place tomorrow, Sunday, 30th July, with round 11 beginning the day's proceedings at 09.10 and round 12 expected to take place from 14.20. Motors TV will cover both encounters live with coverage transmitted on Sky Digital via channel 413 and through cable provider NTL on channel 173.
