Formula Renault UK title-challenger Jeremy Metcalfe returns to the venue of his maiden category race victory in a little over a week's time, 15th/16th July, aiming to open his 2006 account and get his championship campaign back on track.
After a difficult couple of race meetings at Thruxton and Knockhill during the last month, the 18-year-old Fleet sensation is confident of returning to the podium at Croft in North Yorkshire the weekend after next and, in doing so, move back up the title standings as the halfway point of the season approaches.
With three podium finishes to his credit so far this season, the top step of the rostrum has unfortunately eluded Jeremy up to now in 2006 but the AKA Lemac star is confident he will be able to challenge for victory at the scene of his first ever win in single-seaters.
"I think we've got a very good chance of winning at Croft", said the BillChaser-backed star, "We were fast in testing earlier in the year, I know the track well and I'm confident we have a very good set-up.
"Croft is a brilliant circuit to drive, there's always something to think about and it is quite a technical track. It's not one of those circuits where it's easy to be quick, you do have to work at it and I like that challenge."
The Formula Renault UK competitors enjoyed a full day of official testing at Norfolk's Snetterton Circuit last week and although remaining on old tyres during the morning and afternoon sessions, Jeremy still achieved the sixth fastest time overall -- just a couple of 10ths of a second adrift of the top three.
"Snetterton went well for us and was a good boost to the confidence after the difficulties of Knockhill", added Jeremy, "I'm confident at Croft we will be very competitive and fighting for podiums at the very least. We'll work on the set-up during the pre-race test and then hopefully qualifying will put us in a very good position for both races."
Rounds nine and 10 of the season will take place the weekend after next, 15th/16th July, at Croft Circuit with pre-event testing to be held on Friday, 14th July. The race meeting will mark Formula Renault UK's return to the British Touring Car Championship support package following the single-seater category's stand-alone event at Knockhill last month.
