Kenney Targets Repeat Wins in Las Vegas
Sterling, Virginia (October 10, 2007) -- Las Vegas Motor Speedway played host to Liam Kenney's first career open-wheel racing victory a year ago and the Virginia-based stand-out heads back to Nevada this weekend for Rounds 17 and 18 of the Formula TR Pro Series 2000 Championship, Saturday 13th -- Sunday 14th October.
Las Vegas holds many special memories for the 15-year-old, not least as he was raised there prior to moving to Virginia, but in racing terms the city's where it all began with Liam's first-ever go-kart race held there. Since then there's been no stopping Kenney and his graduation to car racing last season was capped in Las Vegas with victory in Round 19 of the Formula TR Pro Series 1600 Championship.
Pole position and a second place finish in Round 20 that same weekend underlined his love of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Liam finishing his rookie season fourth overall in the Driver Standings.
Stepping up to the more powerful two-litre class this season, Liam's further showcased his potential. His efforts have been all the more impressive as he decided to enter the 2000 Championship in a self-run effort, Kenney racing the #95 Liam Kenney Motorsports entry against some seasoned opposition. Hard work and determination have paid dividends with Liam's record heading into the penultimate race weekend boasting three victories, 10 podium finishes and five front-row starts.
Sitting third in the points with four races remaining, Kenney's optimistic of another strong showing in his former home-town.
"The Las Vegas round is definitely special to me and I'm excited to be racing there again," Kenney stated. "It's always a big weekend for me with lots of family and friends attending and it's also a track that I've always gelled with, I love the high-speed, flowing nature of the corners! I'd like to score a couple more wins before the end of the season and I can't think of a better place to achieve that than here in Las Vegas. Qualifying will be important but I don't want to place all my focus on that as I know we're good in race trim as well!"
Liam Kenney is contesting the full 20-race Formula TR Pro Series 2000 Championship, racing a Formula Renault 2.0-litre, 200bhp open-wheel race car through 10 double-header weekends from March to November 2007.
