Kenney Keen to Emulate Past Successes at Willow Springs
Sterling, Virginia (August 08, 2007) -- California's Willow Springs Raceway proved to be a happy hunting ground for Virginia's Liam Kenney last time he visited the track and with Rounds 13 and 14 of the Formula TR Pro Series 2000 Championship returning to the circuit this weekend, Saturday 11th -- Sunday 12th August, the 15-year-old racer is aiming to maintain his win streak there.
Kenney, a rookie in the class for 200bhp European-style 2-lire Formula Renault open-wheel race cars, claimed a dominant pair of victories at Willow Springs in early May when the series first raced at the track in Rounds 5 and 6. Back then Liam sat ninth in the Driver Standings following a frustrating start to the season but his successes at the track earlier in the year kick started an impressive rise through the ranks with the teenage hot-shoe returning commanding third place in the points and looking to close the gap to John Knudsen and Billy Goshen ahead.
Since winning at Willow Springs Kenney's taken the #95 Liam Kenney Motorsports entry to five more podium finishes including his third win of the season in June at California's Buttonwillow Raceway. Utah's Miller Motorsports Park hosted Rounds 11 and 12 of the 20-race Formula TR Pro Series 2000 Championship last month with Liam claiming a brace of second place finishes behind Billy Goshen to climb from fourth to third in the points chase.
With Miller Motorsports Park and Buttonwillow Raceway appearing again on the schedule later in the season, combined with this weekend's return visit to Willow Springs Raceway, Liam's experience and previous podium successes are sure to serve him well as he continues to make a name for himself as an emerging young open-wheel racing talent.
"I'm excited to be heading back to Willow Springs," commented Kenney upon his arrival in California this week. "I've enjoyed a pretty strong race streak and it dates back to when I won both rounds at Willow Springs in May. I know we're capable of matching that accomplishment this weekend and it's helped by the fact that I really enjoy the track and love racing on it. There's bound to be some variables this time round but we've got a good team together and I'm feeling confident heading into the weekend. Hopefully everything will work out well again!"
Liam Kenney is contesting the full 20-race Formula TR Pro Series 2000 Championship, campaigning a Formula Renault 2.0-litre, 200bhp open-wheel race car through 10 double-header weekends from March to November 2007.
