Skip Barber Grad Patrick Long Signs with Manor Motorsports
Skip Barber Racing School graduate and Skip Barber Race Series veteran Patrick Long’s British based racing adventure keeps progressing like a well-oiled machine. After nearly winning the British Zetec Formula Ford Championship last season, Long has moved a notch closer to fulfilling his ambition to be the next American in Formula One. He recently announced that he has signed with the highly rated Manor Motorsports squad to contest the British Formula Renault series.
"I am very excited to be joining a team with the track record of Manor Motorsports," Long said from his home in Harrold, England, outside of Milton-Keynes. "This is an terrific opportunity for me to take another step up the European racing ladder towards Formula One. But the competition will be tough, with my teammates and with the other competitors. I'm looking forward to working hard, going quick, and winning some races!"
Long’s runner-up position in last year’s Formula Ford Series is the highest position ever secured by an American. The series has spawned many of F1’s luminaries including Ayrton Senna and Mika Hakkinen.
Manor Motorsports, based in Sheffield, England, has a strong record of success in both Formula Renault and Formula 3. Finnish sensation Kimi Raikkonen, now driving for McLaren Formula One, captured the 2000 British Formula Renault championship in a Manor-prepared car. Raikkonen moved straightaway from Formula Renault to F1
