Paul Ricard Eurocup: Scott outduels Norris to claim Race 1 win
Harrison Scott fended off championship leader Lando Norris to win consecutive Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup races, after his victory at the last round the at Red Bull Ring.
AVF driver Scott briefly lost the lead at the start of the race, when R-ace GP’s Will Palmer got his nose ahead going into Turn 1.
But Scott fought back in the next few corners to take back the place, going around the outside of Palmer, slotting himself firmly in the lead.
Will, the younger brother of Formula 1 driver Jolyon Palmer, then lost another place to Norris in a space of two corners, leaving Scott and Norris to fight for the win.
The two British drivers had a race-long battle, with Norris sticking closely to Scott's rear but unable to find a way past - meaning Scott was able to hang on for another win, a mere 0.152s clear of Norris.
Behind, Palmer settled for third, with teammate Max Defourny claiming fourth, while Tech 1’s Dorian Boccolacci making up 12 places to complete the top five.
Sacha Fenestraz finished sixth ahead of Robert Shwartzman and Ferdinand Habsburg, the Austrian making seven places after starting 15th.
Julien Falchero and Antoni Ptak benefited from late contact between Gabriel Aubry and Nikita Troitskiy, the two losing out a top 10 finish while running seventh and eighth.
Meanwhile, Force India protégé Jehan Daruvala lost chunk of places at the start of the race and was hit by a rival, leading to an unfortunate retirement.
