Fight for the NEC title draws to a close at Spa - Francorchamps
The 1st - 3rd of October sees the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup at the Grand-Prix track of Spa - Francorchamps. The weekend is not only going to be spectacular because of its 28 participants and three races, but even more because this event could be the deciding round for the 2010 championship.
The upcoming weekend at the world-famous track of Spa - Francorchamps offers local hero Ludwig Ghidi the chance to seal his leading position in the Northern European Cup and become the first Belgian champion in the existence of the series. Mikkel Mac, his closest opponent in second position is bound to try everything in his power to get as close as possible and postpone the deciding race until the last weekend at the Nuerburgring.
The Formula Renault 2000 title seems to go in the Danish direction. Brothers Dean and Daniel Schilling have passed the leadership from one to the other during the last two events and have a solid lead of 43 points to the number three Johann Ledermair. The young Austrian talent can still make a difference, as there are still 90 points to earn this weekend.
The Formula Renault 2.0 championship in the Belgian Ardennes is joined by a number of EUROCUP teams. Epsilon Euskadi and its four drivers are on the list, together with MP Motorsports Kalle Kulmanen and British Will Stevens. On top, the organization of the Northern European Cup is pleased to welcome the well-known team of Josef Kaufmann Racing to the grid, with two Formula Renault 2.0 cars.
The Formula One track in Belgium holds a very full programme for the single- seaters, starting on Friday afternoon with free practice.
