Northern European Cup enjoys successful tests at the Nurburgring

Having a full field of 24 cars, the Northern European Cup can look back at two successful days at the Nurburgring, Germany. Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th of March offered Formula Renault 2.0 the possibility to use the Formula One track and prepare for the coming season.

Making good use of the nice weather, Magnussen and Motopark Academy put the fastest time on the screens (1.57.625) on Wednesday. Finnish Toomas Heikkinen, driving for Koiranen Bros was well able to keep up by being only seven hundreds of a second slower than Magnussen. The remaining part of the top five was made up by Felix da Costa and Jacobo for Motopark and a good result for Nigel Melker with MP Motorsport on 5th place.

Thursday started with grey skies, but in the morning already gave way to an improvement of the set record. The son of former Formula 1 driver Magnussen beat his own time by three tenth of a second (1.57.312). A time that would stay put for the rest of the day. Whilst the constructions on the immense new grand stand constantly progress to be ready for Formula One, the day on the track finished with good results for Quaife Hobbs in 2nd place (1.57.469) and Arnold Neveling,(1.57.959) for SL Formula, being the fifth fastest driver on the track.

The next official test for Formula Renault 2.0 NEC will take place at the famous track of Hockenheim, on the 30th and 31st of March, 2009. This will be the last test before officially starting the season with the Easter Races at Zandvoort (11 & 13 of April, 2009).
