Chance at NEC title during World Series by Renault at Nurburgring
The seventh round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup will take place on the 19th and 20th of September at the Nurburgring in Germany. The 13th and 14th race of the 2009 season will be held among the good company of the World Series by Renault programme, including Formula Renault 2.0 EUROCUP, Formula Renault 3.5 and the Eurocup Megane Trophy.
Portuguese Antonio Felix da Costa has strengthened his lead in the overall standings through his win at the Truck GP weekend in Most, almost three weeks ago. He is now 74 points ahead of Kevin Magnussen in second position. If Felix da Costa wins one and takes the minimum of a fifth place or higher in the other race, he will be able to secure his title in the Northern European Cup.
As usual, the World Series event will be for free of charge to all visitors, and in addition to the grand stands, the paddock and attractions will be open to all. The mentioned Renault series make up for ten races in total, but the programme is completed with several demonstration sessions, including one of the Renault Formula One team.
The world famous track in the German Eiffel hosts the last event of the Northern European Cup on German ground, as the very last event of this year will take place in Spa - Francorchamps, Belgium. Because of the full schedule at the Nurburgring, both races of the Northern European Cup are scheduled for Sunday, the 20th of September. To avoid clashes with the EUROCUP, the first race is set for 9.15 on Sunday morning, followed by the second one at 16.00.
Nine of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC drivers have to prepare for a very intense weekend. The young racing talent of Motopark Academy, Krenek and MP Motorsport not only have the NEC races listed for this weekend but also participate in the EUROCUP races organized by Renault Sport Technologies.
The Northern European Cup will be completed by Swedish Tom Blomqvist, son of the former World Rally Champion and his team mate Kevin Kleveros, both driving with the Swedish Trackstar team. Next to the Swedish representation, Danish KEO Racing will compete with Robert Siska on board. Last but definitely not least, Jakub Knoll for Krenek Motorsport will also return to NEC for the third time this season.
