Twenty-eight Formula Renaults at NEC premiere in Brno

Hockenheim Historic has barely passed, but the next event for the Formula Renault Northern European Cup is already about to start at Automotodrom Brno this weekend (23-25 April). A record of 28 Formula Renault's will compete for championship points, in what will be the third and fourth race of this season.

The impressive number of 28 participants is owed to the possibility of using Wild Cards for Formula Renault 2.0 EUROCUP participants. Teams that usually only run during the World Series by Renault events, now come to the Czech Republic to visit NEC. The series welcomes a number of established teams back to the field, such as Koiranen Bros, MP Motorsport and Krenek Motorsport.

Besides such a full starting grid, the location of the second round of NEC is also remarkable. The Cup has never been at the track near the Austrian border before and is pleased to add this increasingly famous track to its calendar. In addition to WTCC, the Masaryk circuit named after the first Czech president keeps adding major motorsport events to its calendar, such as the FIA GT1 World Championship and the World Series By Renault.

The teams of Formula Renault 2.0 NEC will start this event with the third official testing day, and will enjoy 4 x 55 minutes sessions in order to get to know the track and find the right set up. The EUROCUP teams will join the field on Friday for 2 sessions of free practice, before the grid will qualify on Saturday at 11.40. Both races are programmed for Sunday, the 25th of April at 10.00 and 13.30.
