Kuba Giermaziak in action in Zolder

Kuba Giermaziak continued his progression in the Formula Renault North European Cup this weekend at the Belgian track of Zolder, where the fourth round of the championship was held as part of the prestigious Masters of Formula 3 event.

The young Polish driver was expecting a tough weekend, as this was a track in which he had done almost no testing. He did well in the short Free Practice session but lost some laps in the end when his car stopped on the track. The reason turned out to be a damaged bearing in the oil pump, which meant that the engine had to be changed. The team did a great job and got the car ready in time for the afternoon qualifying sessions.

The first session was very disappointing, as constant yellow flags meant that it was not possible to improve the laptimes. Kuba looked set for a Top 15 position, but a mistake on his best lap meant he ended up in a lowly 19th place for Race 1. The second session went much better, and he qualified in 12th place for Race 2.

Kuba had a great start in the first race of the weekend, and quickly moved up five places. Later in the race he came under pressure from Joonas Kostiainen and spun trying to defend his position. The rookie driver was able to get back on track and finished in 16th place.

The second race was much better however. Kuba drove always in a close group of cars, putting pressure on the drivers in front while defending his position. He made no mistakes and finished in a very positive 11th place.

"The first race was disappointing, but the second one was much better!", he commented after the weekend. "I managed to score some good points this weekend, and I am looking forward to the next race!"

The Formula Renault NEC returns in three weeks, for round 5 at the famous Nurburgring in Germany.
