BART HYLKEMA JOINS MOTOPARK ACADEMY IN NEC FORMULA RENAULT 2.0
MAARN, 28 FEBRUARY 2009 - Bart Hylkema has signed a contract with Motopark Academy to take part in then 2009 Northern European Cup Formula Renault 2.0. The Dutchman already tested for the German Formula Renault 2.0 top team on the Portimao (Portugal) and Barcelona (Spain) circuits at the end of 2008 and was able to convince team manager Timo Rumpfkeil of his capabilities. The young talent is anxious to start the next step in his motor sport career.
Last year a long-cherished wish of Hylkema was fulfilled and he made his debut in the Northern European Cup Formula Renault 2.0 with Finnish team Koiranen Bros. As the season progressed he was able to keep his head up among other more experienced drivers and scored points on a regular basis. His best result was a decent fourth place in the NEC races at Zolder (Belgium).
The Motopark Acedemy team was founded in 1998 and is located next to the Oschersleben circuit in Germany. After several years in Formula Konig the team moved up into Formula Renault 2.0 in 2001. They had a lot of successes with former Formula 1 driver Scott Speed, 2006 European champion Filip Albuquerque and 2007 champion Frank Kechele. Last year the German team once more secured the Northern European Cup and Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 titles with Valtteri Bottas.
Current Formula 3 driver Carlo van Dam will keep an eye on Hylkema's performances. The former German and reigning Japanese Formula 3 champion will personally coach the 19-year old during the season.
BART HYLKEMA: "I am very happy with the Motopark Academy contract. After a season in NEC Formula Renault 2.0 in which I learned a lot, I have signed a contract with this top team! The team has professional engineers and mechanics that are capable of getting the best from the car. Everything shows professionalism. The structure of the organisation, the people, the communication within the team, the cars, everything is perfect. The personal coaching by Carlo van Dam is very important for me. Carlo has got a lot of experience and has scored many big results in the international karting and motorsport world. I am convinced he can help me in my development as a driver. I have opted for another season in NEC Formula Renault 2.0 to get even better. This is a great opportunity for me and I intend to get the best out of it. I am really confident ahead of the new season. If I score some podium finishes I will be very happy. I am looking forward to it!"
