Antonio Felix da Costa -- Birthday without celebrations
On his 17th birthday, Antonio Felix da Costa was at the Nurburgring, in Germany, where he participated in the double round of the Formula Renault Northern European Cup (NEC) and Eurocup.
Nothing went according to plan but Antonio still had a good showing in the Eurocup, finishing the two races in 10th and 9th place. Although this was below expectations, the Portuguese driver was on the same pace as the fastest drivers and scored points in both races, won by Roberto Mehri and by his team mate, Valtteri Bottas.
In the NEC (Northern European Cup), and for the first time this season, both driver and team faced several problems during the weekend. Due to a poor qualifying, Antonio started the first race from 8th place, and was 7th at the end. In the second race, starting from 2nd place, Antonio had an excellent start and was in the lead after the first corner. However, he was hit as he fought with other drivers during the first lap, which resulted in a punctured rear tire. Antonio headed to the pits to replace the damaged tire and rejoined the race, but with no chance of finishing in the points.
Looking back at the German event, Antonio commented "There are days when everything goes wrong. Both the team and I have done a good job all year but this time nothing came out right. I know there are days like this and I will not give up, and at the final round of the NEC, in Spa, I will do my best to secure the 2nd place in the championship. Before that I will be in Estoril, for another round of the Eurocup, where I hope to give my team, sponsors, and everyone who had supported me in this first year racing in formula cars many reasons to cheer!"
