Pre-Season Shakedown For Gelles Racing
March 14th. -- Gelles Racing team will hold its pre-season shakedown this coming weekend as the drivers and the crew will take to the track four FR2000 single seaters that have undergone complete revision after the end of the Winter Invitational series in Homestead. Gelles, the first team in Formula Renault 2000 to announce a full line-up in 2004, will have its three drivers, Gustavo Sondermann, Brandon Thomas and Michael Yager, on location plus a guest driver, Canadian David Greco.
"We want our drivers and our crew to be ready for the start of the season in Phoenix, announced team owner Bob Gelles. The secret in a series like Formula Renault lies in the communication between the drivers, our engineer Lolo Perdomo and the crew. The driving impressions of a pilot, the data from the car and the engineer analysis blends into the perfect set-up and turns an ordinary race car into a podium contender. Our drivers come from different walks of racing and we must give them the best opportunities to become familiar with Formula Renault and push their own talent to the limit."
Yager, Thomas and Sondermann
Three drivers will be the racing force of Gelles when the presently 13-race schedule starts four weeks from now in Phoenix. American rookie Michael Yager will steer the #3 Mid-America Motorsports car, Canadian newcomer Brandon Thomas will drive the #2 TenFore car while two-time winner Brazilian Gustavo Sondermann will have more time to further his understanding of his #4 Corduroy Fabrics car.
Canadian David Greco will join the team for the testing sessions. No plans have been announced yet concerning the rest of the season for the Toronto, Ontario driver
New web site for Gelles
Bob Gelles also announced the launch of a new web site for his team. "We gave a new look to our team with the series starting the Formula Renault era this year and the V-6 being announced for next year, said Gelles. It was normal to air a new web site. It is still in the breaking-in period but holds many promising features."
The oldest team in Formula Renault racing in North America, Gelles Racing will enter three cars in the 2004 North America Formula Renault 2000 series with sponsorship from Corduroy Suape Textile, Mid-America Direct, TenFore and USA Today. Grand-American Racing, FIA and Renault Sport sanction the series. For more information, you can visit the new web site at www.gellesracing.com. The first race of the season is scheduled for April 8-10 in Phoenix, Arizona.
