North American Formula Renault to make Grand-Prix de Trois-Rivières debut

(4 June 04)--The North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship will make its debut appearance at the famed Grand-Prix de Trois-Rivières on the weekend of July 30--August 1st and will see the series race immediately before Sunday's feature event, the Motorock TransAm Series, giving the enthusiastic Canadian race fans a prime-time look at the future stars of racing. The weekend will mark the 35th edition of the event, which takes place on a 1.52-mile temporary street circuit in Trois-Rivieres, which is situated between Montreal and Quebec City on the St. Lawrence River.

The weekend will mark the first visit to the Grand-Prix de Trois-Rivières for the Formula Renault 2000 Championship, as the theme of the weekend is celebrating the past while looking ahead to the future. As part of the celebrations of the past, the weekend will include a meeting of the Historic Formula Atlantic Association on Saturday as one of nine different races taking place during the weekend.

The debut for North American Formula Renault marks the beginning of a new relationship for both the event and the series, as officials have announced that the two have signed a three-year agreement, insuring the longevity of the event. The agreement is a prelude to many good things to come for both parties, with additional announcements expected in the future.

The North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship will race next at the famed Watkins Glen circuit in New York for round three of the season on the weekend of June 18-20 as part of the Sahlen's 6 Hours of The Glen weekend.

The North American Formula Renault Championships are sanctioned by Grand American, and provide a ladder for drivers to develop their talent, with a full in-house open-wheel progression available. The series staged a successful first-ever race weekend in April at Phoenix International Raceway.

The Formula Renault V6 Championship is the top rung on the North American Formula Renault Championship ladder, which also includes the North American Formula Renault 1600 Championship and the North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship. The Formula Renault V6 is expected to make its North American competition debut in the latter stages of the North American Formula Renault 2000 season in advance of the 2005 championship.
