North American Formula Renault Adds Mexico City

(16 July 04)North American Formula Renault officials announced today that the 2004 series finale will be held in support of the Champ Car event at Mexico City on the weekend of November 7th and will replace the previously scheduled race at Vancouver.

The 2.786-mile Autodromo Hermano Rodriguez circuit will provide a fantastic opportunity for the drivers to race in front of some of the largest crowds in racing world-wide, as over 400,000 race fans attended the three-day event in 2003.

The change to the schedule was made in part to keep true to the series' goal of cost containment, and the team owners were excited about the opportunity to race in Mexico.

"We are excited to be racing in Mexico, and it gives our series a presence at some of the largest events in all three North American countries," said series promoter John Kolody. "The team owners in North American Formula Renault are the best in the world, and felt strongly that we should go in this direction, and I want to thank them for their support."

Juan Ponte leads the North American Formula Renault 2000 championship, and will work to defend his lead in round five at the famed Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres on the weekend of July 30-31.

The Formula Renault V6 Championship is the top rung on the North American Formula Renault Championship ladder, which also includes the North American Formula Renault 1600 Championship and the North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship. The Formula Renault V6 is expected to make its North American competition debut in the latter stages of the2004 North American Formula Renault 2000 season.
