Canadian David Greco becomes Gelles official test driver
March 31, 2004.- Gelles Racing confirmed today it will have an official test driver for the 2004 season in the person of young driver David Greco. Gelles is the first team to announce a test driver in the North America Formula Renault 2000 series. Greco, who will turn 18 later this summer, completed competitive testing recently and decided to join the Virginia-based team for the rest of the season. Both parties have also agreed to campaign together in the North America Formula Renault FR2000 Pro championship in 2005.
"I think we reached the best agreement for both parties, declared team owner Bob Gelles. We wanted to secure a promising 17-year old driver for next year and give him the opportunity to go to work this season. Therefore, David will not remain idle this year and we will prepare a special program that will benefit him as well as our crew and drivers."
Eight days on eight tracks
"I am very happy with the end result, said young Greco out of his home in Toronto, Ontario. Any driver will be glad to step up in the racing ladder but I will appreciate the experience of test driving [IMAGE] David Greco the car I will drive next year much more than driving another type of race car in a different series. Furthermore, test sessions on many facilities across North America will be useful for next year when we return to those venues. On the other hand, I know Bob Gelles will prepare a test program for his cars. The FR2000 cars will be updated soon and the more time we spend on the track compiling data, the more the crew will learn and the regular drivers will benefit."
Citizen of the world
Although he was born in Italy, David Greco spent his first racing years entering kart championships in Brazil. Now living in Toronto, David is working with agent Robert Pearson out of Montreal securing the proper funding for next year. "No doubt David will become a good race pilot, concluded Bob Gelles. He has Italian blood and Brazilian temper!"
