Eurointernational now leading Formula Renault championships on two continents

(3 August 04)-- Eurointernational has distinguished itself after this weekends Formula Renault races, at Spa-Francorchamps and Trois-Rivières, to now be leading the standings in Formula Renault competition on two different continents, in both the team and drivers championships. Eurointernational campaigns the North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship with drivers Juan Martin Ponte and Ricardo Imery, as well as contesting the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup Championship with Giorgio Mondini and Stefano Proetto.

Mondini is locked in a tie for first in the drivers championship in Formula Renault V6 competition with three race weekends remaining, and Ponte has stretched his lead in NA Formula Renault 2000 after taking third in Trois-Rivières this weekend.

Team owner Antonio Ferrari, who recently celebrated his team having started 200 races in a variety of championships from IndyCar to LeMans, is proud of the teams accomplishment, but is more concerned about where they stand at the end of the season.

"It is of course, very special to be leading these championships on two different continents," said Ferrari. "It is a testament not only to the skill of the drivers we select, but also to the hard work and cooperation of everyone on the team, from the mechanics to the engineers to the truck drivers. They are very proud to be in this position, but of course, it doesn't matter so much what the standings are in August as it matters what happens at the end of the season!"

The Formula Renault V6 Championship is the top rung on the North American Formula Renault Championship ladder, which also includes the North American Formula Renault 1600 Championship and the North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship. The Formula Renault V6 is expected to make its North American competition debut in the latter stages of the2004 North American Formula Renault 2000 season.

The North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship will continue next weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course as part of the Emco Gears Mid-Ohio Road Racing Classic.
