Seth Ingham claimed Saturday's 2 liter class win on September 10th at Thunderhill Raceway Park in the Formula TR Pro Series. Ingham's winning streak stopped on Sunday, however, when John Knudsen took the victory and brought Ingham's championship lead over second place, Derek Sabol, down to only one point.
Ingham's teammate, Carl Skerlong, took his Odyssey Motorsports machine to another win in the 1600 class, but Adam Davis fought back on Sunday with a victory of his own.
The first 2 liter race showed pole sitter, John Knudsen, relinquishing the lead to Ingham on the start. On lap eleven, Knudsen bobbled and dropped all the way back to sixth place, handing second place to Brett Blankers. Just one lap later, Blankers left the circuit and gave second place to Derek Sabol. Meanwhile, Ingham cruised to the checkered flag with Sabol coming in second after his fifth place start and Bret MacDonald's CT Motorsport machine rounding out the top three.
Sunday's 2 liter event began with Ingham leading the field into turn one from the pole. After starting third, Dustin Welch's day ended abruptly on lap four when a part broke on his Welch Racing machine and propelled him off the track. Knudsen hung onto the rear wing of Ingham until lap eleven when he snuck by Ingham in turn eight. Two laps later, Ingham spun his Odyssey Motorsports machine, dropping him back to fourth position. Knudsen drove untouched to the finish with Sabol coming in second for Team Bucknum and Bret MacDonald in third.
Saturday's 1600 class pole sitter, Adam Davis, led the field until Carl Skerlong snuck by on lap three. Two laps later, Davis found himself deep into the grass when the right rear, lower A-arm mount broke off his gearbox. This handed second place over to Philip Metzger of PM Motorsports who was entangled in a fierce battle with Austin Harris. Skerlong cruised to the finish with Harris using the 2 liter field to his advantage to grab second over Metzger. Kerry Lynch of Knudsen Racing took the masters' race victory.
Davis once again secured pole for the second and final 1600 event of the weekend, and held his lead over Skerlong going down into turn one. The two battled back-and-forth for the lead until lap nine when Davis slid off the track at the same time a full course caution slowed the pack. It was determined by race officials that this incident occurred under yellow, and Davis reoccupied his previous position for the restart. Harris and Metzger once again had a heated battle which ended with the two tangling in turn fourteen and Harris spinning off the track. Davis drove his Welch Racing machine to the finish with Skerlong in second and Metzger in third. The masters' race win went to Tony Welch with Lynch ending early due to gearbox trouble.
The Formula TR Pro series will roll back down to Buttonwillow Raceway Park for rounds 15 and 16 on October 8th and 9th.
