Donington Sprint Race - Memo Rojas on the Podium!
After all the problems of Saturday's race the satisfaction came from the Mexican DAMS driver Memo Rojas with his first podium finish of the season after a quick and consistent drive on Donington's wet track. Neel Jani did an impressive come back in the top 5 after he finished the 1st lap of the race on 10th position due to confusion on the start of the race. Bruce Lorgere-Roux passed 7 cars on the start of the race before loosing the benefit of this fantastic 1st lap with a few mistakes which pulled him back to 13th place.
Memo Rojas : "We knew that one day or another all the work would pay. I have been several times in a position to score points this year but there was always a problem (crash or pushed out by another car). Today the car was perfect, it is a shame that I have lost some time behind Sharp because after I passed him I took more than 10 seconds on Montanari, with a few laps more I think I could have passed him. It is also a great satisfaction to do this result on a wet track because since the beginning of the season my level of performance was not good enough on the rain (and we have had rain every week end!). Now the time is to continue on that direction, I qualified in the top 6 on my last 3 qualifying sessions so we should be able to get more top results on the coming events."
Neel Jani : "After the 2nd corner every body including me went out due to an aquaplaning. I did not went out as much as the others and I was going to take the lead when I went more in the grass to avoid an accident with Belicchi. I lots many places (10th at the end of lap 1) and I pushed very hard to come back on 4th position. The car was good, I was as quick as Belicchi but with my effort to come back in the front my rear tyres were burnt and I had to let pass Pasini on the final lap to avoid any problem and get some important points for the championship. Today I feel very strong, even yesterday was not very good it was not bad luck any more but just a misunderstanding between the Team and me, I did 4 pole positions in a row and I took some points on the main contenders of the championship except Belicchi."
Bruce Lorgere-Roux : "My start was perfect and I passed 7 cars on the outside line of the 1st 2 corners. Then I decided to push hard and try to come in the battle for the race win but I did some mistakes which cost me too much, it is a shame because my car and the conditions were good enough for me to catch a podium finish."
