Race 2 "Sprint Race" - Sunday 28th March 2004
As in 2003 the first race week end of the FRV6 season was a disappointment for DAMS. With the inside of the front row for the Sprint race, Neel Jani was optimistic before the start of the race, it was a good position to bring big points for the championship. Unfortunately Jani was pushed out a first time by Mondini on the braking of the first chicane after the start. A few laps later Robbie Kerr hit the back of Jani's car at the same corner as they were fighting for 4th place. The young Swiss was able to go back on the track but a lost a lot of places. From 12th place he could get back to 7th on the finish line.
Memo Rojas was not luckier than his team mate in this Sunday Sprint Race. With problems in qualifying which pulled Memo out of the top 6 (where he used to be in the previous winter tests), the challenge was big but possible to get some precious points. Unfortunately the car in front caused a contact in the formation before the rolling start which destroyed the nose. "From the cockpit I could not see exactly what the problem was and my lap times were still good. The Team decided to stop me any way because the wing was badly damaged and it was too risky to keep going on like that." When he got back on the track with a new front wing, there was no more hope to get in the top 10.
Bruce Lorgere-Roux was pushed out of the track on the first chicane.
Eric Boullier, Managing and Technical Director : "We had some better week ends, for sure, and today the race facts did not help us. The problems that disturbed qualifying made the races difficult but the final result is not significant and we know that our level of performance was good any way. I really hope we will be able to demonstrate in Valencia where Memo, Bruce and Neel are in the hierarchy of this championship."
