EPSILON EUSKADI ON TOP
The Eurocup Megane Trophy line-up took to the Paul Ricard HTTT Circuit for their final round of pre-season testing before the Championship starts in Zolder next week. Epsilon Euskadi put in an outstanding performance placing both Jean-Phillipe Dayraut and James Kirkpatrick at the front of the field.
After the Nürburgring, the Eurocup Meganes headed to France for some more track time and a few final adjustments before the season gets underway!
The convert from the World Series, Jaap Van Lagen showed he is adapting well to this category, in which he is highly tipped to be a podium contender. Van Lagen (Equipe Verschuur) was very satisfied with being the quickest driver on Day 1: «It is a big change for me but it is also plenty of fun. The Megane is a good package and I have a lot of respect for the drivers and teams in this category. I'm happy to be competitive right from the start!»
Cesar Campaniço will be at the wheel of a Racing for Belgium Megane Trophy for the second year running. As usual, he has been one of the front-runners in this test and he is keen to be in the fight for the Championship title. The Portuguese driver finished in front of Ludovic Badey (TDS), one of the top drivers in this series, in which he finished third overall in 2005.
Today, it was another sunny day at the Paul Ricard HTTT and the teams were able to complete their test programmes on this final day of testing. Yesterday, the Oregon Team concentrated on their race set-up, enabling Ferrara to finish third quickest. But today, he took a non-compliant line through the chicane, meaning the Team received a one hour pit-stop penalty and resulting in all Ferrara's times being cancelled.
It has also been a good day's work for both Epsilon Euskadi cars, with Jean-Philippe Dayraut heading the list of 29 drivers at the Paul Ricard with a timed lap of 1.30.970. The newcomer James Kirkpatrick, who has just recently joined the ranks of Epsilon Euskadi, concentrated on getting to know how the team works.
For the record, it also worth noting that Jean Charles Miginiac (Team Lompech) managed to complete 250 laps, equivalent to a total distance of almost 1000 km in two days!
