Andrea Caldarelli clinches F. Renault Eurocup championship lead at Le Mans

Andrea Caldarelli achieved his pre-race goal at Le Mans, where the Italian took the lead in the F.Renault Eurocup drivers' standings. The 18-year-old from Pescara, part of the Toyota Driver Program, experienced an extremely positive weekend on the French soil, as he paired the 98 points scored this season by team-mate Daniel Ricciardo with just two events to go, at Estoril and Barcelona. At Le Mans, Caldarelli lost a couple of spots at the start of Race 1, ending up in 4th. He promptly recovered though, by passing Valtteri Bottas and starting a fiery battle with Miguel Ramos, who had to surrender to 3rd place in the closing laps. On Sunday, Caldarelli keept 2nd place all-day long, ending up behind Bottas. On the same weekend, Andrea took part in the F. Renault WEC round too. After sweeping a front row spot, he committed a mistake while running in the wet, and fell into the midpack, but managed to recover and take 8th place.

Andrea Caldarelli

"It's a great moment for me, at Le mans everything worked perfectly and I'm finally at the top of the F. Renault Eurocup standings. It feels great and I'm looking forward to the last four races of the year, where I'll fight for the win with my team-mate Daniel Ricciardo. We'll have to whatch out frm Mehri and Bottas: they're great drivers, and anything could be happening from now on. I'm sorry for the mistake I made during the WEC race, as I lost the chance to fight for a podium spot, but we can still fight back."
