A Top Ten position is the young drivers goal.
Portuguese driver, Lourenço Beirão da Veiga, premieres this weekend at the wheel of his Formula Renault of the CRAM Team. The Formula Renault European Championship is one of the most competitive competitions available in Europe and the French track of Magny-Cours will stage the Championship's inaugural race.
"It is a tough and competitive Championship. Formula One teams, such as Sauber, Minardi, Toyota, and, of course, Renault have a major involvement in this Championship. Besides, there will be 44 drivers on track, of which the first 20 run in the Italian Championship and are quite experienced. As if that weren't enough, of the 10 circuits we will be running, I am only acquainted with four. The rest of the tracks, I will only have my first contact on the racing weekend, since there is a new regulation that prohibits any testing on championship tracks after March 15th". Explained young Beirão da Veiga of the Team Portugal.
Lourenço has proven an excellent adaptation to his Formula Renault single seater of the CRAM Team: "The first couple of testes were a bit complicated. I was stopped for some time since it was a car I had never driven before: more potent, with more aerodynamic adherence and with an incredible braking capacity. Compared to the Formula BMW that I drove last year, The Formula Renault is much faster, but has a later braking point. These are factors that make the first contact with the car all the more difficult, especially if the track is full. Anyhow, on the last test session, it was quite different. I ran faster and more consistent times, so I know I can evolve. All you need is to be calm and patience to progress without making unnecessary mistakes". Remarks Lourenço Beirão da Veiga.
"My goal for Magny Cours is to end in the Top Ten. It is a tough layout, but I am fully aquatinted with it and with the experience I have gained, I believe it is a goal I can manage," Concluded the promising young driver.
