There`s no much to say about José María López after the season opener of the new Formula Ranault V6 disputed in the circuit of Barcelona, Spain.
The best of the Argentinian was the qualify session where he won the pole position for the two races of the weekend.
However the luck didn`t help him and he was in the pits before the end of both races.
The first race of the weekend disputed on saturday wasn`t surely how he dreamed it. The 2002 Champion of the Italian Formula Renault lost the leadership in the start in hands of Neel Jani, who took advantage of López`s problems to win the first competition of the category.
Of course that if it wans`t for the stupid Jaime Melo, driver of the DAMS team sure López may fight for the victory. The former driver of the South American F3 clearly touched the Argentinian and his car suffered important damage and he couldn`t continue. ¨I spoke with Melo ans Marcelo Rosei (his team manager) beacuse I was ungry. He just told me that he felt humiliate when I passed him outside the track¨, said ¨Pechito¨.
The Swiss Jani of the Jenzer Motorsport dominated the race from the started to the end with the fastest lap in the fifth lap (1:38.871). The big sourprise of the journey was the Japanesse Matsuura who iniciated the race from eight place and finished second, 7s behind the winner.
The sunday race had the same result of the first one: Jani in front, López out. In the start ¨Pechito¨ lost the first position with Jani and the problems for him appeared very soon in the competition with the gearbox of his Tatuus. A couple of laps later ¨the oil light shown up¨ said López.
But the problems did`t end there for him. ¨In a moment Jani, who was winning passed over an oil stain and he lost control of his car, I tried not to hit him and I also passed over oil. Fortunately nothing bad happened¨, completed the driver of 19 years.
Jaime Melo arrived second after started third, but far away of the winner. Now the Swiss leads the championship and López will have a new opprtunity on April 26 and 27 in Magny Cours.
