The weekend at Spa-Francorchamps wasn`t what José María López was expecting for the fifth round of the Eurocup Formula Renault V6.
The Argentinian started well in the practice day with the third position, but the qualify session shown a different situation. In the second lap López lost control of his car and with this the chances of a good position in the starting grid.
¨It`s a pity because the car was good, but the accident complicated the day for me. The car was to broken and the team didn`t had the time to repair it, that`s why I continue in the track, but it`s was impossible to get a good fast lap. Tomorrow will be a difficult race and I`ll try to arrive ahead as is possible¨, commented López on friday.
On saturday the idea of ¨Pechito¨ of jump the first place in the championship was far away at Spa, a circuit that the Argentinian likes a lot.
Despite friday`s mistake, López ran trying to take some points and so he did.
López completed a great recovering to arrive ninth in the track and eighth with the disqualification of Damien Passini (Victory by Cram), who arrived fifth in the track.
José María ended very close to the Japanesse Kousuke Matsura (Signature) and his team mate, the Austarlian Christian Murshison.
¨It was a good race, at least I could take some points and keep the fourth place in the championship. May be I could be ahead if we wouldn`t lost to much time in the pit stop. However this helped as a lot for the next round, also here at Spa. I marked the fastest lap, which shows the car was competitive. About the championship, in a few days, we may have some news with today`s finals results, because both cars of the Signature team, the winner Gommendy and Matsura (seventh), ran objected. If they are excluded I`ll add more points, although that will also help Melo and Jani, second and third and they are also fighting the tournament¨, completed the Argentinian.
The French Tristan Gommendy (Signature) took the race ftom the started to the chequered flag. This was the first victory for him in the season. The podium was completed by Melo jr. at 11s884 and the test driver of Sauber in F1, Jani (Jenzer) at 15s790. López arrived at 48s768 of the winner.
Melo jr. leads the championship with 146 points, followed by Gommendy with 144 and Jani 140. López is fourth with 102.
Now the category has a month for the next round on August 30th. and 31th. again at Spa-Francorchamps.
