IMPRESSIVE WIN FOR RENGER AT MARLBORO MASTERS FR2.0!
Young Dutch talent runner-up in Formula Renault Championship
Zandvoort, June 14th 2005 - After an initial testing year in 2004, young Dutch driver Renger van der Zande demonstrated his talent last sunday by winning the Formula Renault 2.0 race at the Marlboro Masters at Zandvoort race track. Out of a full competitive battle field with 26 participants he took advantage of his second position at the starting grid and headed the race from start to finish. With top drivers out of the Dutch, UK and European Championship as competitors Renger impressed with his resolute style of driving.
Renger finished the first race at saturday in fifth position. He used this race to set a position 2 qualifying time for the final race on Sunday. Junior Strous, James Jakes, Patrick Hogan, Carlo van Dam, Bas Lammers, Yan Clairay, among others, tried to follow Renger in the Final. Only Xavier Maassen kept contact with two seconds distance. In the last two laps the pace car came in because of a crash. Renger, as a consequence, finished his first serious win in Formula Racing in the slipstream of the pace car.
Renger, after successes in Karting in Italian, German, European and World Championships, now is heading for the Dutch Championship Formula Renault with only a couple of points left to Competition leader Junior Strous.
Renger van der Zande : " It's great to win this unique event. The Marlboro Masters with 40.000 race fans .... I was dreaming of this result. Last monday I said to my teammanager Frits van Amersfoort that I felt I was going to win this race. This deep feeling was a driving force and together with the serious preparation and testing made me the guy to beat ".
