Daruvala completes an impressive 2.0 Alps wildcard stint

With the NEC season over, the learning curve continued for Jehan Daruvala in the final round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps at Jerez, as a guest driver in the championship.

The last round of 2.0 Alps at Jerez was Daruvala's third appearance in the series after having competed at Monza and Misano.

Starting the weekend, the Fortec driver finished 23rd and 13th in the two practice session headed by Jack Aitken (Koiranen GP) and Ben Barnicoat (Fortec).

Daruvala only ran 10 laps in the first session presumably due to issues with the car.

Better performance on Saturday

After a sedate Friday, Daruvala showed an improved performance in the first qualifying of the weekend where he finished sixth and was 0.576s off polesitter Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing). Aitken finished second while Cram Motorsport's Vasiliy Romanov was third.

It was a fairly quiet race for the Indian as he finished where he started at sixth, gaining more experience of the track and also driving with a different pool of drivers.

Hubert won the race from Aitken as Daruvala's teammate Barnicoat rounded off the podium.

Hard work in race two

In qualifying two, the Force India protege was caught out by the red flag interruptions in the session. As a result, Daruvala finished only 14th with teammate Martin Kodric taking pole ahead of Matevos Isaakyan (JD Motorsport) and Barnicoat.

It was hard work for the Indian, but he showed grit and composure as he made his way up through the field. Some nice battles with fellow drivers as he finished eighth in the final race of the season.

Fortec had a reason to smile as Barnicoat took the win while Hubert was second and Aitken third.

While Daruvala was ineligible to score points, the championship was wrapped up with Aitken crowned champion as Jake Hughes was second and Thiago Vivacqua (JD Motorsport) third.

Daruvala completed an impressive stint having notched up two poles, a rookie trophy and a podium finish in the three rounds he competed in.
