Australian rising star Will Davison (Melbourne) has completed reigning Formula Renault UK Champion team Motaworld Racing's driver line-up for 2002.

Davison, aged 19, is the reigning Australian Formula Ford Zetec champion and becomes the first Antipodean to race in Formula Renault UK since Stephen White finished third overall in the 1996 series. He comes from a racing background, as both his father and grandfather successfully competed at international level.

Motaworld's three other seats have also been filled by drivers graduating from Formula Ford: Robert Bell (Newcastle), Alex Lloyd (Port Soderick) and Gary Turkington (Portadown).

On his Formula Renault debut last November, Bell, aged 21, won Motaworld a second consecutive winter championship so will surely start the season among the title favourites. Manxman Lloyd, aged just 17, finished an excellent third overall in the winter championship for rival team Falcon Motorsport. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Turkington is also expected to show strongly after emerging as a front-runner on the British Ford scene during the past two seasons.

Alan Waite, boss of the Maidstone-based team, is confident of retaining both the Formula Renault UK's drivers and entrants titles in what is expected by many to be the most competitive season in the championship's 12-year history.

Waite commented: "I am delighted with our 2002 line-up - it is a terrific mixture of experience and extremely good young talent. All have superb raw speed with proven track records."

He added: "Defending our crown is going to be very tough but everyone in the team is aware of that - success does not come easy at this level. However, I am confident we have got the talent to keep ahead of the competition."
