Fresh from his win at Brands Hatch, the British driver Danny Watts is keen to extend on his championship lead at Oulton Park in a couple of weeks. Yesterday's test session at Silverstone (International circuit) provided all the drivers with three 40-minute sessions to work on their cars before heading up to Croft circuit in Scotland later this week.
The first session was dominated by Danny Watts, who was the only driver to go under 1m 20s and he only managed this on one lap. The session was the warmest of the day although there were a couple of red flags during the 40-minutes. Robin Rudholm, sixth in the championship, ultimately finished second and Jamie Green, who retired from seventh position at Brands Hatch, finished third.
In session two only Alan Buncombe was able to break the 1m 20s barrier. There was only one minor stoppage during this session and this allowed drivers to do some serious running, with some drivers doing up to 31 laps of the 2.249-mile circuit. Buncombe was closely followed by Mark McLoughlin (currently second in the championship) and Danny Watts.
The third session was the coolest of the day with overcast conditions and yet every driver set their fastest time of the day. Eight drivers lapped under 1m 20s including Danny Watts, Robert Bell (the Winter Formula Renault series champion), and Mark McLoughlin who was fastest for Paston racing by nearly 0.3 seconds.
Lewis Hamilton, whose career is being supported by McLaren, suffered problems with his car and finished ninth overall.
