PODIUM RETURN IDAFAR'S FOCUS FOR SNETTERTON RACES
Hillspeed's Menasheh Idafar is eyeing a double podium finish at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk next Saturday, 9th August, as he aims to get his 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship campaign back on track during the eighth and ninth rounds of the year.
The British-born Bahraini, who is currently equal third on points in the headline FR2000 Class, endured a luckless weekend at Croft in North Yorkshire a fortnight ago but is focused on making an overdue return to the rostrum at Snetterton having already achieved four podium finishes from seven races so far this season.
"We went well in testing at Snetterton recently so I'm looking forward to next weekend, hopefully we can be on the podium in both races", said the 17-year-old, "Croft was a bad weekend but that's forgotten about now, we know we can be quick at Snetterton."
Having gone extremely well during recent tests at both Snetterton and Donington Park in his Formula Renault BARC car, Menasheh also took the opportunity to gain extra mileage at Donington and Silverstone this week.
Idafar takes maiden test miles in FRUK racer This time, however, he made his debut appearance at the wheel of a 2008 specification car as raced in the full Formula Renault UK Championship -- one of the potential destinations for the Ortolan, Gulfol and Gulf Computer Services backed driver in 2009.
Testing at Donington on Thursday, 31st July, and Silverstone's National Circuit yesterday, Friday, 1st August, Menasheh enjoyed some valuable track time at the wheel of a brand new, Hillspeed-prepared, 2008 Formula Renault UK car and showed great promise.
Menasheh commented: "It was fantastic to have a couple of days in the Formula Renault UK car, it's obviously quicker and the aerodynamics are different to a BARC car but I adapted well. I can't wait to have my next run!"
Driver coach, British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) Rising Star Matt Shawyer, added: "We had a good opportunity for Menasheh to get the feel of a Formula Renault UK car this week, it was ideal for him to get used to the aerodynamic differences and the increased speed of a UK-spec car as he begins to look ahead to next year.
"The weather was quite mixed on Thursday but Friday's run was pretty much fine all the way through. We only ran Menasheh on used tyres but his times were still competitive, it's certainly been a very valuable experience for him."
Returning to Menasheh's current commitments in Formula Renault BARC, rounds eight and nine of the 2008 season will take place a week tomorrow, Saturday, 9th August, at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk.
As during the previous race meeting at Croft, the grids for both races at Snetterton will be determined during just one, 20-minute qualifying session which will get underway at 09.25. Round eight will then follow at around 12.00 with round nine set to begin at 15.30.
