Rosenqvist Reaps Another Weekend Double
In Saturday's Round 6, Felix Rosenqvist showed his dominance winning his fifth race in a row on the maiden visit to Thailand for the Formula Asia 2.0 Series. Rosenqvist further strengthened his lead in the Championship when he stormed past pole sitter Mathias Beche after making a better start off the grid taking the lead into turn 1 at the Bira Circuit. The March 3 Racing driver's lead was never threatened and he crossed the finish line first.
"It feels good to be able to extend the lead in the Championship. Every point is an improvement in the end and I am very happy to be able to win this race. The start on this track is very important so I really have to focus to make a good start and I succeeded in taking Mathias at the first corner. After that there were no mistakes and I tried to push to extend the gap to the cars behind." said Rosenqvist during the post race press conference.
Chinese driver, Zhu Dawei was passed by IWASAKI at the last corner in the last lap, unfortunately missed the podium position of Asia class. Boughey, Thai driver of March3 was penalized with a drive through penalty during the race after he made a false start. After climbing from fourth to third, the Thai driver dropped down to last after taking the drive through on lap seven. He then tried to pick up the pace even clocking under one minute to try and catch up, but the gap was too big for him to finish any better than eighth. French driver Benjamin did not finished the race due to accidents.
Sunday's Round 7, Felix Rosenqvist claimed his sixth consecutive win of the season, further strengthening his championship lead in the Formula Asia 2.0 series. Rosenqvist got off to a very good start and was never threatened by the rest of the drivers all the way to the checkered flag. Benjamin, Robert, Zhu Daiwei respectively finished the race in 7th to 9th.
Up to now, in drivers ranking,Felix Rosenqvist stands in the first position with 43 points more than the second; and March3 racing team have the obvious advantages of 91 points leading the team championship.
The next round of Formula Asia 2.0 will still be in Bira Circuit in September.
