Seventh Straight Win for Felix
The Round 8 & 9 of Formula Asia 2.0 came back to the 2.4km Bira Circuit in Pattaya, Thailand on 6th-7th September.
In light of the current demonstrations and the state of emergency in Bangkok, only seven of the 13 registered drivers participated and for March3, only the driver championship leader, Felix Rosenquist came to the circuit. He won again in Round 8.It was a seventh straight win for him. The Swede further extended his lead in the Series.
Round 8 was held under wet conditions following a heavy shower right before the start of the race. Rosenquist lined up on the grid in second place, alongside pole sitter, Yoshitaka Kuroda. The Japanese had a good start, managing to hold his lead for the first laps from the fast charging Rosenquist. Then on lap five Rosenquist tried a manoeuvre on Kuroda, going into turn two and made a clean pass and then holding on to the lead all the way to chequered flag.
"In the first corner I tried to pass Kuroda on the outside but he stayed on his line and I got out onto the grass but I managed to get back on the track. On the exit of turn 2, I had more speed than him so I was able to pass." said Rosenquist during the post race press conference. When asked how he felt at the start of the wet race, Rosenqvist replied lightly, "I was quite nervous because during the practice yesterday I spun and was only able to do two laps. But it turned out to be quite good in the rain so I am happy".
However, in Round 9, Felix was too nervous; his car lost control and spun several times. Even he did not finish the race, his still kept the lead of drivers' championship.
Up to now, in drivers ranking, Felix Rosenquist stands in the first position with 45 points more than the second does; and March3 racing team has the advantage of 51 points leading the team championship.
The next round of Formula Asia 2.0 will still be held at Shanghai International Circuit on 1st-2nd November.
