ART is set for a strong opening
Asia Racing Team's Formula Renault 2.0 team is heading to the Zhuhai circuit in China this week, for the first race of the 2010 season the non-championship "AFR Championship Spring Race". Thailand's duo Sandy Stuvik and Tin Sritrai will be making their single seaters debut this weekend, while Hong Kong's Luca Ferigutti makes a return to the series he raced last season.
The Asian Formula Renault series season returns to the circuit that closed the 2009 season, where Asia Racing Team's Luis Sa Silva clinched the eighth victory of last year season for the Macau Zhuhai based outfit.
After his almost wheel-perfect weekend in Zhuhai in October 2009 - which saw him take a pair of podiums Luca Ferigutti, 29, will be again eyeing a place on the podium. Due to his race experience, the Switzerland native and former AKOC Rotax Max champion will lead the ART attack at the team's home track. The white and red-brown #27 car will be again sponsored by Dubey and Schaldenbrand Watches and MagicGoal.
Tin Sritrai, crowned double Asian Karting Open champion last season, moves up to single-seaters in 2010. Sponsored by PTT, Singha, RAAT and Race for Thailand, the 20-year-old native of Khon Kaen has one of the strongest Karting careers in Southeast Asia, including good results in Japan, and is looking for a successful first single seater appearance this weekend.
At the young age of 15, Sandy Stuvik is one of the most promising drivers in Asia. Stuvik, who is supported by The Pizza Company and Dacon Inspection Services, has been winning everything there was in go-karts on the way up, and he has excelled in Thailand's tin-tops last year. The Formula Renault winter testing times tells us Stuvik will be aiming high for his single seater baptism.
The first event of the season kicks off with Free Practice on Saturday 23 April. Saturday 24 April features the Qualifying in the morning and the Race 1 after lunch. The second 10-lap race will take place on Sunday 25 April.
