Report of the Italian FR at A1-Ring: Bad day for Guerrieri
It wasn`t a good weekend for the Argentinians drivers at the fourth double round of the Italian Formula Renault disputed at the Austrian circuit A1-Ring. Esteban Guerrieri and Rafael Morgenstern arrived seventh and ninth after the first competition and both retiered in the other one.
Despite this weekend results, Guerrieri keep leading the tournament with a smaller gap over the french Franck Perera.
No doubt that Esteban was the most complicated at Austria. The 18 years old driver qualified second for both races, despite the set up problems with his Tatuus of the Cram Competition. Guerrieri wanted to fight with his rival Perera, who took the two pole positions.
In the first race the Argentinian took the leadership over Perera, who quickly retired after a bump with the Finn Tony Wilander. When the Pace Car left the track Esteban did an interesting gap with the rest of he field.
However the oversteering problems that he suffered during the practice day came back and Guerrieri started to loose places until finish seventh.
¨The car had no grip, which complicated me in the corners. I lost positions and despite I tried to take care the car I ended seventh¨ said Guerrieri.
The start of the second competition shown the same situation of the first: Guerrieri passed Perera, but this time the problems apperaed earlier for the leader. After only 300 metres a mechanic problem in Guerrieri`s car put him in the last position. Esteban iniciated a great recovering, but one more time the luck wasn`t with him this sunday. A bump in the rear tyre put him out with no chance to continue.
¨I was 19º when the car ahead of me opened to much in the first corner and when I was trying to pass him he closed and bumped me in the back and I had to stop. Although we had to bad races, I keep leading the championship and now we will continue working a lot to get a good result at the next race at the Misano circuit¨, completed Esteban who leads with 125 points over Perera with 121.
Morgenstern, the other Argentinian at Austria, had also a bad sunday. He arived ninth the incitial competition and retired then with the same luck of Guerrieri. Morgenstern is tenth in the championship with 30 points.
