Goodyear, Miller, Vinatieri Motorsports joins inaugural season of U.S. Formula 4

Two former Indy car drivers partner with NFL star to form new Indiana-based squad.

Former Indy car race winner and ABC IndyCar analyst Scott Goodyear has teamed with four-time Super Bowl champion and Indianapolis Colts player Adam Vinatieri and three-time Indy 500 starter Dr. Jack Miller to start a U.S. Formula 4 team.

The team’s name will be Goodyear, Miller, Vinatieri Motorsports LLC and will operate out of Westfield, Ind. The stated intention is to field “up to two” cars in 2016’s inaugural season of the SCCA Pro Racing-run U.S. F4 Championship.

The team’s plan fulfills the concept of Formula 4, which is to offer kart racers their first experience of an open-wheel racecar.

Goodyear, who twice finished runner-up in the Indy 500, said: “Formula 4 allows young up-and-coming drivers to graduate from karting to a state-of-the-art open-wheel car and gain valuable experience in a single-seater. I'm excited to be part of this leading edge series and to have the opportunity to share my racing knowledge and some valuable secrets of success with up and coming racers.”

Both Goodyear's son and Dr. Miller’s son will be part of the first-season lineup. Michael Goodyear has earned six karting titles, and will take part in a limited number of events. Jack William Miller, who numbers the famous Rotax Florida Winter Challenge among his wins, will be test driver initially due to his age, but hopes to race for the new team in 2017.

Goodyear went on: “Both Jack and Michael have shown their speed and success in karting, and like many fathers whose child is competing in karting, I'm excited for them to move up to the next level of competition. We are excited to provide that opportunity for them and others in the Formula 4 Series.”

Vinatieri added: “I’ve known Jack for years and his commitment to success and his passion for the sport inspired me to get involved.

“Indianapolis is all about racing and helping young drivers work to achieve greatness and make it to the pinnacle of the sport at the Indy 500 is something I’m excited about.”
