Twynham gears up for European F3 Open debut
Just two days after his 17th birthday, Cameron Twynham will contest the F3 Open Winter Series.
It might only be February but Cameron Twynham is already preparing for the new motorsport season and a fresh challenge.
Following a fantastic 2012 campaign that saw the Market Harborough ace finish fourth in Intersteps and sixth in the Formula Renault BARC Winter Series, Twynham will graduate to the Copa Class of the fiercely competitive European F3 Open with former champions Team West-Tec.
That challenge begins in earnest at former French Grand Prix venue Paul Ricard on February 16th when, just two days after his 17th birthday, Twynham will contest the F3 Open Winter Series.
Evaluating options for his 2013 campaign saw Twynham sample the Team West-Tec-run machine just before Christmas during a test in Valencia where the then-16-year-old immediately got to grips with the car’s increased horsepower and aerodynamics. Indeed, he was a feature at the top of the timesheets across all three days.
The greater physical demands of a Formula 3 single-seater have seen Twynham similarly step-up his own exercise regime over the winter.
Alongside personal trainer Ben Spiers of Inspired Personal Training, Twynham has worked hard to further build leg and arm definition, as well as the neck muscles required to cope with increased G-forces through the corners.
Additional simulator work at iZone Driver Performance has also helped to learn the European circuits he will visit for the first time.
The progression to F3 has prompted Cameron and his team to recruit a number of respected industry professionals to help in all aspects of his career.
Highly rated GT racer Ollie Millroy has come on-board as driver coach and mentor for the season, while a new commercial team that includes Head of Marketing Brian Sims and Commercial Manager Matthew Twynham has also been established.
Cameron Twynham: “It has been a very intense off-season with testing, simulation work, training, school and a new team of people around me, but I am incredibly happy to be making this move to Team West-Tec and the European F3 Open.
Many people have suggested this is a year for learning but there is no doubt I am here to win races and demonstrate my full ability. Anyone following me on Twitter or Facebook will have seen just how hard I am pushing to be fully prepared for this season.
This one-off Winter Series event will be a great test of how much all this training has improved me as a driver. I just can’t wait to get back out in the car and show what I can do.”
