Tough start Carlo van Dam in F3 Euroseries

WOLFSBURG - Dutch racing driver Carlo van Dam had a tough first outing in the Formula 3 Euroseries today. In the first race of the year, at the circuit of Hockenheim in Germany, Carlo drove his Kolles & Heinz Union team Dallara-Volkswagen from the 26th starting position to 18th at the finish a result that was the sum of a variety of problems.

"There really is no two ways about it: we are simply lacking a lot of speed at the moment", Carlo summarises those problems. "In free practice we were 9 km/h slower than the fastest Volkswagen-powered cars on the straight, despite being the quickest out of the corner leading onto that straight. Then you know some things aren't quite right of course. Today we reduced the angles of the wings drastically to gain some straight line speed, but that is just a compromise obviously, not a solution. In addition, we have a down shift problem and the brakes aren't functioning properly. So if you add it all up we are simply not doing that well. In qualifying and in the race I had fuel feed issues and that of course doesn't help either. Also, I hit a wall yesterday and the handling doesn't feel okay ever since , but the team hasn't been able to find a problem so far. I am always a positive person and I do not like complaining, but there is no point in denying the obvious and painting a nicer picture than how things really are at the moment. We face a variety of problems and before we can make progress we need to solve a few crucial issues."

Tomorrow the second race is held at Hockenheim, in which Carlo will start from 18th.
